Makeup tips
Some of the environment and lifestyle factors affecting our skin are…
UV Ray
Much have been emphasized on this topic. Make sure you slap on sunscreen before you leave the house daily.
Air-condition
For those of you working in an air-condition environment, remember to bring along your moisturizer or a fine mist spray (such as Evian Mineral Water Spray, Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist Spray) to re-hydrate your skin throughout the day.
Smoking
Most of you know that smoking will dry out skin but do you also know that the continuous action of smoking will results in vertical line above your lip to your nose, a sign of pre-mature aging?
Drinking alcohol
Bride-to-be, don’t drink too much on your “Hen” nite ya. Excessive alcohol dehydrates your skin and results in premature aging.
Insufficient water intake
Amount of water individual should drink depends on many factors such as age, weight and occupation etc, but a rule of thumb is to drink between 1-2 litre daily. Insufficient water intake causes the body to dehydrate and result in poor skin condition. However, take care not to drink water too late in the night cos it will result in water retention too.
Food
A balanced diet is a long term investment for healthy, glowing skin. For oily or acne prone skin, make sure you avoid oily and spicy food!
Before beginning on your makeover, it is important to inform your makeup artist on your skin type especially if you just cleansed your face. The different kind of skin types are:-
Normal Skin
1.Neither too oily or dry;
2. Healthy colour;
3. Even coloured and usually free from blemishes.
Dry Skin
1.Dehydrated and dry to touch, sometimes with patches of flaky skin;
2. Tight and small pores;
3. Commonly accompanied by uneven pigmentation such as freckles.
Oily Skin
1. Oily;
2. Enlarged pores;
3. Acne prone and sometimes accompanied by redness.
Combination Skin
Combination of two or more skin types described above. Most common is the oily T-zone on forehead and nose.
For the makeup to look fresh and last longer, it is important to prep your skin a few days before the makeover. Below are a list of 'homework' I usually recommend my client to follow:-
1. Do a full facial threading and eyebrow tweezing about 4 days before the makeover (ample time for the redness to goes off);
2. Put on water-based moisturizing mask daily for about a week (if possible);
3. Do a facial scrub to get rid of dead skin the day before the makeover (applying the mask after the scrub will help the skin to absorb the moisture more readily);
4. Do a proper cleansing before the makeover (basic cleanse, tone and moisturize).
